Zines at Home.

Sitting at the kitchen table as a five year old, surrounded by the emptied contents of your mum’s stationery draw has to be one of the best things in the world. This is one of the feelings the Home Festival in Brisbane is hoping to emulate this April when it opens its arms to the community and provides a place where everyone can feel included, safe and welcome to join in with a wealth of creative energy.
Almost every aspect of this festival celebrates creativity – a sculpture garden entry, wardrobe markets, original live music, delicious food, cubby house making and a range of exciting workshops. The workshops are a DIYer’s dream. Everything from dance and songwriting to doll house dioramas, wood block printing and even a zine workshop.
Run by the creators of Boocandy zine (issue one out soon, keep an eye out!) the zine workshop aims to involve the community in a collaborative home-themed zine, while educating a diverse audience about the beauty of such an expressive and accessible craft. The workshop will also be home to a zine library, kindly supported by Visible Ink (http://www.visibleink.org/our-projects/media-hub/), and of course there will be a range of zines for sale through Smells Like Zines also (http://smellslikezines.com/). Exciting!
Home Festival runs from 11am to 8pm on April 9th in Raymond Park, Kangaroo Point (behind the Pineapple Hotel). For more details or to get involved, check out http://home-festival.com or www.facebook.com/Home-Festival-Brisbane.
