Paper Cuts friends’ Innez and Ili approached the collective a few weeks back about the possibility of helping out with a zine fair that will help raise funds and help stock Dasmarinas Infoshop & Library in the Philippines.  It’s just been given the green light.

Zine-makers are getting together for a Sunday arvo zine fair/fundraiser at Burst City and you’re invited to come along.

We’re hoping to raise funds to help with the renovation of a space in Dasmarinas, a city in the Philippines. The Dasmarinas infoshop & library will stock alternative media and zines for the local community, while also providing a space for alternative culture and practice.

Joey, a contributor of Infekted Mind Zin…e and active member of the space, says damage to the roof, walls and doors is causing problems for the collective, so funds raised are set to be used for the purchase of wood, plywood, plyboard, nails, screws and other materials to help with the renovations.

A mini interview with the Aldabis collective who aim to establish a library at the Dasmarinas Infoshop.

Who we are?
We are a collective named Aldabis (resist and fight back) composed of individuals aiming to accommodate a community of people aware of their lives and connections, whilst communicating and practising mutual aid.
What we want to do:

 We as a collective aim to establish an infoshop library center in our community, which has a vast majority of people working very hard and even dying to work for money . The streets are filled with children begging for money and food, missing out on the education and knowledge they should possess. This is the reason we decided to establish a center that will provide information and knowledge to these people to keep them aware of their lives and for us to share alternative learnings plus useful knowledge for living. The center will be used for activities such as workshops , discussions, film screenings, and food not bombs . We believe this space will help us expose ourselves with what seems to be forbidden by the standards of society, as this space signifies RESISTANCE from the people, as a means of response to any oppressive acts.

Currently we are in the process of establishing the center, having the space is just the first step, we still require your help. We are lacking the materials we need to repair and renovate plus the zines and books to fill the infoshop.

We are in need of some people who can donate items such as books, ebooks , zines, and other alternative reading materials. We are also in need of  people who can donate funds so that we can begin the renovations of the centre.
